[Treatment of pulmonary hydatidosis: apropos of 33 cases].
Thirty-three patients with pulmonary hydatidosis treated between 1960 and 1987 were reviewed. A positive history of alveolar tapeworm was found in only six cases and a history of contact with wild animals was recorded in 20 cases. The mean size of the hydatid cysts was 17.3 cm (4-40 cm). The modalities of treatment were: Medical in 22 cases, surgical in eight cases and conservative in three cases. These various methods were discussed: Medical treatment was easy to perform, but for those patients who developed pulmonary insufficiency, surgical treatment seemed to be more suitable.
