"Rockstar" is the story of the young, wild, and free members of an LA rock band who battle adversity and personal demons to fulfill their rock n' roll dreams. Young Cole Carter (Emile Hirsch) is the lead singer of Rockstar Rumble (think Guns N’ Roses meets The Strokes). His deep voice belies his youth - he’s only 18. But like any diva worth her salt, Cole's got a shady past with plenty of youthful mistakes. That's just one reason why these Hollywood Hills-dwelling dudes are now living out their days in a cramped hotel room, eating prepackaged food off paper plates. It’s not glamorous, but it is rock n’ roll. On a hot August night in Hollywood, Cole and the boys are playing a gig at a local club when a fight breaks out with a rival band. While Cole is being beaten outside the venue by gang members with baseball bats, his friend and band mate, drummer Adam (Max Minghella), screams out that he can't see without his glasses. Later, when they get back to their hotel room, they realize that Adam's glasses were broken in the fight. The next day, Cole searches for help to find a new drummer. He finds the perfect guy in fellow rocker Freddy (Garrett Hedlund). Although he plays drums rather sloppily, Freddy is confident that he can learn the material. Cole also finds help from his father, Jack (Andrew Dice Clay), who is currently incarcerated at Lompoc Correctional Facility for tax evasion. As a teenager, Cole discovered that his father had embezzled millions of dollars from his own business partner. Young Cole only turned in his dad when another boy was beaten up badly at school by some of Jack's thugs thanks to the stolen money. Cole continues his journey of self-discovery while fighting to keep his band together. Their manager, Erik (Peter Gallagher), is skeptical about their ability to make it in the industry. Cole must also confront personal demons, including a girlfriend who cheated on him while he was in prison with Jack… It is available on iTunes "Rockstar" was released in more than 2,000 theatres nationwide on Friday, May 20th 2011 The film received mainly negative reviews from critics.
